Parting is such sweet sorrow…
… That I shall say good night till it be morrow.
For four years now, leaving Singapore is infinitely worse than saying farewell to Sydney.
A brand of affection
22 pieces of information about Vanessa – some embarrassing, some astute, some rather meh; all are true:
- She has a crush on James Franco.
- It is safe to assume that she likes ’em scruffy, to the point of unkept.
- She is a History whiz.
- The extent of her untidiness parallels my degree of fastidiousness.
- I only look like the older sister; she is, without question, more disciplined, sensible and level-headed.
- She constantly makes me look bad with her frugality and well-maintained nails.
- She takes her guitar lessons seriously, as with everything else.
- Despite never having a boyfriend, she gives surprisingly profound relationship advice.
- She has almost unreachable expectations of the opposite sex.
- She tends to exaggerate, or leave out important nuances, when she tells her friends about my zany behaviour.
- She does not eat beef and rarely consumes carbohydrates.
- We used to have eruptive arguments, often addressing unrelated issues, mainly because we never back down and hold out with “I’m not going to let you have the last word”.
- She answers to ‘Poo-Neh’ – try it.
- When our family joins a holiday tour group, she is always the first person to make friends with the other members.
- She loves Las Vegas for its sleaze.
- The excessive amount of perfume she uses fumigates our bedroom every morning.
- She has an eclectic taste in music.
- The only time she is louder and more vulgar than me is when Roger Federer is playing.
- She has a wide range of facial expressions, most of them laughable.
- Her ears are susceptible to infection.
- Before I underwent LASIK in July 2008, she was the only one in our family who did not suffer from severe myopia.
- She turns 22 today – HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
The stars in the sky
I may be single, but being a girl stereotypically means I am a romantic, no matter the circumstance.
Working relationships
Life can be so pedestrian at times that you’d rather it be a stage… Or a set. Then again, reality’s dramatics might provoke a desire to be directed just so one is relieved from doing any decision-making. And on the most banal level, at least the hours in the cinema give a sort of escape.
Shot by Annie Leibovitz for Vanity Fair, the inspiration and imagination, in front of and behind the camera, that are responsible for the films that move us.
